Statement from the Elders of The Vine Community

coronavirus_header

To Our Dear Church Family,

We, the Elders of The Vine Community, met on Friday evening to discuss our response to the ongoing crisis related to the Coronavirus. Together we prayed and discussed what measures we should take in order to best serve The Vine Community and Deer Park during this time.

Probably most of us are tired of the various proclamations being made by different organizations and their responses to this situation (as this is being written, I received one from Red Robin…). And yet, here we are, making a statement as well. Please bear with us for a moment.

At our meeting on Friday, we decided to meet together as a community this morning. We are thankful for those of you who chose to join us, and we are equally thankful for those who chose to stay away.

Since Friday we have made other small decisions, but no decisions have been made regarding our assembling together going forward. We are seeking clarity of thought, wisdom, and God’s leading while making any longer-term decisions. We will meet again this week to reconsider that question and any others that may come up.

Seeing that this is a dynamic situation, decisions previously made might be changed at any time. We ask for grace; as flawed humans, unless the Lord intervenes, we will make wrong decisions at times.

Enough about the Elders, let’s talk about our family, The Vine Community. It is reasonable to anticipate the disease touching some of us. There will likely be needs within our community, both The Vine Community and Deer Park, that we as a family can meet. Let us be open to what He has for us. We don’t know what that will look like, but let’s pray that the Lord will make us ready.

We are reminded of several truths from scriptures. We are reminded of James 1:5-6, which says,

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

We promise to pray this verse for you and for us, would you join us in that?

We are likewise reminded of Esther being told by Mordecai, “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Does the Lord have something new for us? Are we open to it?

We are reminded as well of Acts 2:44-47, speaking of the early church,

And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. The dynamics of the first century Church situation were totally different than what we have here. The point is, they continued to see their fellowship and unity in Christ as greater than their own needs, and the Lord blessed, adding “to their number day by day those who were being saved.”

If anyone ends up at home, sick and/or quarantined, would you please call, text, or email one of us and let us know? If anyone is lacking in some basic needs, again would you please let us know? It is appropriate for this to go through your LifeGroup leaders as well if desired.

For the LifeGroups, right now we are encouraging the leaders and hosts to prayerfully consider whether they will continue to meet. We anticipate that there will be different decisions made by different groups, and that is OK. But, let’s continue to support and love each other, to the best of what God has given us.

One last point of business, our income as an organization is largely affected by the number of people in this building on a Sunday morning. Our expenses, however, are largely unaffected by the number of people in this building on Sunday morning – they continue regardless. That is enough said for now.

That is all we have to share today. Please feel free to reach out to any of us if you have any questions or concerns.

With all of Our Love,

Jeromy, Greg, Dean, and Sean
